T20 World Cup 2024: Until a few years ago, no one had even heard that USA also has a cricket team. Then in 2021, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said that the 2024 World Cup will be played in USA and West Indies. West Indies is already a well-known name in cricket, but in the last 3 years, world-class grounds have been built in the USA. The upcoming World Cup will start from June 2, in which 20 teams will participate. Since cricket is not very famous in America, the question arises that why has the ICC decided to hold a big tournament like the World Cup here.
USA has been selected as an experiment!
Since the number of cricket fans in the USA is very less, filling the seats in the grounds can be a very complicated task for the stadium management. Especially how will the crowd be gathered in the matches of smaller teams. To overcome this problem, it was decided to hold only 16 matches in the USA. There are a total of 20 teams in the tournament, between which 55 matches will be played till the final. Out of these, 16 matches will be played in the USA and the remaining 39 matches will be played in the West Indies, where cricket is already famous.
Cricket is making a comeback in the Olympics
Some time ago it was announced that cricket is being brought back in the 2028 Olympics. So what is the connection between the return of cricket in the 2028 Olympics and hosting the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA? Let us tell you that the 2028 Olympic Games are to be held in Los Angeles, America and till then the ICC will make every possible effort to promote the game of cricket in the US.
Cricket has remained untouched by western countries
England is the birthplace of cricket and after that, cricket became popular in all the countries which were under British rule. Today cricket has become very popular in Asia, Europe, Australia and the African continent. But cricket is still untouched by the western countries. In such a situation, USA can be used as a pawn. If cricket succeeds in making its presence felt in USA, then countries like Mexico, Brazil and Argentina can also be encouraged to move forward in cricket.
3 grounds of USA selected for World Cup
9 grounds have been selected for the T20 World Cup 2024, out of which 6 are on the Caribbean islands and the remaining three are in the USA. Nassau County Stadium (New York), Central Broward Park (Florida) and Grand Prairie Stadium (Texas) are the three grounds in the USA where the World Cup matches will be played. The first match of the tournament will be played between USA and Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium on June 1. The Indian team will play its first match at the Nassau Stadium in New York.
